37 Oregon Web 2.0 Companies
Back in March, I made an OregonStartups.com about John Cooks Venture Blog, which listed the roughly 100 Web 2.0 companies in Seattle -- and I wondered how many there were in Portland. Michael Berkley and Ryan Williams listed a number of Portland-area Web 2.0 companies in their comments to that post. (Thank you Michael and Ryan!)
Expanding the focus to Oregon (not just Portland) I've been putting together a list of Oregon Web 2.0, building on the inputs from Michael and Ryan. And I'm up to 37. You can certainly argue that some of these are "Web 2.0 technology companies" as opposed to "Web 2.0 companies" (e.g., JanRain with their Open ID technology) -- so yes, I'm being flexible. I will argue that all of these companies have a very strong plug-in to web 2.0!
If I've missed anything (I'm sure I have), please let me know by posting a comment! Here's the list:
Aboutus - wiki with information about websites and other community created topics
Art Face Off - discover, honor, and support artists and curators to power a new art world
Attensa - getting more relevant information with less duplication from web feeds (RSS)
BarFly magazine - bar ratings/reviews/blogs/events

Cuppin - - social coffee tasting website
fmyi - Shared workspace collaboration website
FreeRange - applications that help people get more out of their phones
Gone Raw - share and discuss raw/vegan recipes from around the world
GoSeeTell - social networking travel sites
Grabb.it - find music from all over the Internet
Jama Software - web based solution for enterprise requirements management
Janrain - identity services based on OpenID
Jive Software - collaboration tools
lov.li - eCommerce website for arts and crafts
Lumeno.us - business intelligence for the rest of us
MomHub - moms connecting with momsw
MyStrands - social music discovery
My World - Social networking site in Vietnam for learning English (Oregon based entrepreneur)
NetworthIQ - social personal finance tool
PdxStump - Portland search engine
Platial - map anything; share your world
PublicPress - digital newspaper for citizen reporters
PushCRM - web bases CRM
Remote Technologies - Web based IT solution for quick server restaurants
Revelation - online research system that immerses you in your customers' experiences
SeniTech Global Corporation -enable users in the developing world to make online purchases without a credit card
SplashCast - syndicate your own audio/video channel
SpynBuy - video classified ads
Stikkit - productivity tool similar to post-it notes for your desktop
Team Snap - Manage your sports team
terraIMS - Internet mapping solutions
TymFinder - - schedule meetings easier/faster (note: this is my hobby project...)
Unthirst - find a happy hour
WorldWide Nest - Social networking for families
YourList - Classified ads
Zurimedia - hosted online solution to bridge printed books with digital media and online opportunities
Great list! Thanks so much for compiling this.
As I was clicking through, I was a bit surprised to find some of these sites without blogs.
I thought having a blog was more important than having a product for Web 2.0 companies. ;)
Again, great work. Thanks for publishing.

Hi Steve, that's a fun list for sure, though there's certainly no clear line for inclusion on such a list and a growing number of traditional companies are starting to embrace what's called web 2.0 as key to their activities, as well.
None the less, I've been scouring my brain to think of more.
Here's some:
Pheedo (RSS ad network)
Panic.com (gorgeous Mac software for FTP, design and more)
GarageGames
NTEN (National nonprofit technology network, now based in Portland!)
http://www.earthclassmail.com
And I know of two more that will launch very soon - just met with a new one today in fact! It's an exciting time to be in Portland!

I should say, too, that though Rick (previous commenter) is too modest to say so here, he writes a great blog about Web 2.0 companies in Portland.

JanRain is a developer of many OpenID libraries, though we do have two 'Web 2.0' products.
Jyte is our claim and credibility engine, make a claim and see where the vote goes.
We are also very proud of our communications solution Pibb. Pibb is a comprehensive solution for all your communication needs; one-on-one chat, communication backchannel for conferences, support tool, or for community based private/public discussions, Pibb.com has the answer.
Sorry to shamelessly plug here, just wanted to let people know we do have products!

Great list. I'd be interested in the background of the founders of these companies. Whether they are locals or transplants, Oregon educated, etc.

Goboz.com is an early stage start-up...they launch Sept. 6th.
Also, GarageGames is far from a start-up...they have been around for many, many years.

I was just talking with some of my partners and I guess technically SideStreet will be Web 2.0, but we are an interesting blend of building custom content and allowing others to build the content.
Keep an eye out.

Never really thought of us as either web 2.0 or a startup, but thanks for the link! (BarFly has been around since 1999)
Unthirsty is far more 2.0 in that mashup sorta way.
